Composed of leading stakeholders from the seafood industry, the delegation expressed a strong interest in the opportunities offered by the Moroccan fisheries sector, particularly in the small pelagic segment — such as mackerel and horse mackerel — as well as in the development of aquaculture.
This mission provided an in-depth immersion into the national ecosystem through field visits and direct exchanges with industry operators. In both Casablanca and Dakhla, discussions focused on processing capacities, quality standards, and prospects for resource valorization.
The exchanges notably highlighted the potential of small pelagic species, which account for a significant share of national catches, estimated at over 80% of landed volumes, and represent a strategic lever for the development of value-added products targeting both traditional markets and new outlets, particularly in Asia.
The Chinese delegation also shared its expertise in aquaculture development, in a context where China remains the world’s leading producer, accounting for more than 60% of global aquaculture production. Discussions revealed concrete prospects for cooperation in this field, particularly regarding development models, production technologies, and related value chains.
A specific interest was also expressed in the development potential of shellfish in Morocco, particularly scallops, in response to strong demand from the Chinese market for this type of product.
B2B meetings organized alongside the visits enabled concrete discussions on investment opportunities, industrial partnerships, and conditions for access to international markets, particularly in Asia.
Initial exchanges helped identify several avenues for collaboration that are expected to be further explored through a gradual and operational project-oriented approach.
This mission forms part of a broader dynamic aimed at strengthening economic relations between Moroccan and Chinese operators in the seafood sector and reflects a mutual interest in developing structured collaborations.
Through this initiative, FENIP continues its efforts to promote the Moroccan offer, attract investment, and enhance the competitiveness of the national fisheries industry.
