Morocco–Liberia: FENIP strengthens a fisheries partnership following the Seafood 4 Africa initiative.

The Director General of NaFAA (Liberia) conducted an official visit to Morocco, marked by high-level meetings with Moroccan authorities and FENIP, building on ongoing African fisheries cooperation initiatives. The visit helped strengthen Morocco–Liberia partnership prospects in fisheries, aquaculture, and seafood value addition, with concrete opportunities for investment and technical cooperation projects.

During his official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco, Mr. J. Cyrus SAYGBE Sr., Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) of Liberia, held a series of high-level meetings in Rabat and Casablanca, notably with Ms. Zakia DRIOUICH, Secretary of State in charge of Maritime Fisheries, as well as with Mr. Hassan SENTISSI EL IDRISSI, President of the National Federation of Seafood Processing and Valorization Industries (FENIP) and the Moroccan Exporters Confederation (ASMEX).

This meeting is part of the continuity of exchanges initiated under the “Seafood 4 Africa” initiative held in Dakhla, and further extended in Liberia during the National Fisheries Investment Conference “KPONGAMA 2026,” held on March 30–31, 2026, in which FENIP took part.

It also aligns with a structured regional dynamic supported by COMHAFAT (Ministerial Conference on Fisheries Cooperation among African States bordering the Atlantic Ocean), which contributes to strengthening dialogue between public and private sector stakeholders across the region.

In this context, FENIP, as a representative private sector actor, aims to actively contribute to this momentum by supporting institutional efforts and providing its expertise in seafood processing, valorization, and value chain structuring, in complementarity with existing public frameworks.

This approach is fully aligned with the High Royal Guidelines promoting the development of the African blue economy, calling for ambitious, integrated, and sustainable South–South cooperation.

Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Morocco and Liberia in fisheries, aquaculture, seafood valorization—particularly shrimp—training, and the development of fisheries infrastructure.

The meeting with FENIP also explored partnership opportunities between Moroccan and Liberian operators, particularly in investment, expertise transfer, processing and value addition, as well as the development of structuring projects, including the construction of Liberia’s first industrial fishing port and the development of an industrial fishing fleet.

During the meeting, Mr. SAYGBE engaged with representatives of Green Table, a FENIP member company, whose Commercial Director expressed interest in developing trade relations with Liberia and sourcing seafood products from this market, opening new prospects for economic cooperation and export development.

“The momentum initiated through Seafood 4 Africa, consolidated during KPONGAMA 2026, is now translating into concrete cooperation with our African partners, particularly Liberia. The private sector thus intends to contribute, alongside public authorities, to the sustainable development of African fisheries value chains,” stated the President of FENIP.

This dynamic reflects a shared commitment to strengthening South–South partnerships and promoting sustainable cooperation for the development of African fisheries sectors.

The discussions are expected to gradually lead to the implementation of investment projects and technical cooperation initiatives, in synergy with ongoing institutional efforts.
